Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 14 tbsp unsalted butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¾ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 yolk egg yolk
  • 1 ½ cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda, then set aside.
  3. Melt 10 tablespoons of butter in a skillet until it turns dark golden brown and has a nutty aroma.
  4. Transfer the browned butter to a bowl and mix in the remaining butter until melted.
  5. Add sugars, vanilla, and salt to the butter and whisk until combined.
  6. Incorporate the egg and egg yolk, whisking until smooth, then let it rest and whisk again multiple times.
  7. Stir in the flour mixture until just combined, then fold in chocolate chips.
  8. Divide the dough into 16 portions and place them on the baking sheets.
  9. Bake one tray at a time for 10-14 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
  10. Cool the cookies on a wire rack before serving.
