Ingredients

Crispy Tofu

  • 1 16 ounce block of firm or extra firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • cup cornstarch
  • ¼ cup oil for frying

Sweet and Sour Sauce

  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup vinegar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 medium bell pepper, chopped
  • ½ cup chopped/cubed pineapple
  • ½ medium red onion, chopped
  • ½ tablespoon sesame seeds
  • to taste chopped scallion

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tofu by pressing and tearing it into pieces, then coat with soy sauce and seasonings.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu until crispy on all sides, then set aside.
  3. In the same pan, sauté onions, pineapples, and bell peppers until onions are translucent.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix sugar, ketchup, vinegar, water, soy sauce, and garlic powder for the sauce.
  5. Pour the sauce over the sautéed vegetables, bring to a boil, then simmer until thickened.
  6. Add the crispy tofu back into the pan, stir to combine, and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Serve topped with sesame seeds and chopped scallions.
