Homemade Chili

Ingredients

The base

  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 lb. ground beef

The beans and tomatoes

  • 1 15oz. can kidney beans
  • 1 15oz. can black beans
  • 1 15oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 1 6oz. can tomato paste
  • 1 cup water

The seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp cayenne powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

  1. Dice the onion and mince the garlic, then sauté them in olive oil until soft.
  2. Add the ground beef to the pot and cook until fully browned.
  3. Drain the beans and add them to the pot along with diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and water.
  4. Stir in all the seasoning ingredients until well combined.
  5. Cover the pot and let it simmer on low heat for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Adjust seasoning if needed before serving with your favorite toppings.
