Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large soup pot over medium-high heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, and cook until browned for 6-7 minutes.
- Stir in chili powder, cumin, sugar, tomato paste, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and optional cayenne until well combined.
- Add beef broth, diced tomatoes (with juice), drained beans, and tomato sauce, stirring well.
- Bring to a low boil, then reduce heat to simmer uncovered for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and let the chili rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
