Ingredients

  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 5 Tbsp lard
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Combine the whole wheat and all-purpose flours in a large bowl and mix well.
  2. Add the lard and work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse sand.
  3. Dissolve the salt in the warm water and gradually add it to the flour mixture until a cohesive dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 1-2 minutes until evenly mixed.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape them into balls, then cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Roll each ball into a thin circle on a floured surface.
  7. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook each tortilla for about 30 seconds on each side until golden and bubbly.
  8. Stack the cooked tortillas on a plate and cover with a damp cloth to keep warm.
