Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened to room temperature
  • ¾ cup cane sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cane sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • cups white whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips or chunks
  • to taste sea salt flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and cane sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla, mixing until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt, then add to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips by hand.
  6. Shape the dough into balls and place them on a parchment-covered baking sheet.
  7. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 10-20 minutes.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set, and sprinkle with sea salt immediately after removing from the oven.
  9. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
