Irish Brown Soda Bread

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet or loaf pan.
- Whisk together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar.
- Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until crumb-sized.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk and vegetable oil, stirring until moistened.
- For freeform bread, shape the wet dough into a ball and place it on the baking sheet, cutting a cross on top.
- For loaf bread, pour the dough into the prepared loaf pan, filling it about ¾ full.
- Bake for 30 minutes at 400°F, then reduce the heat to 375°F and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack for about 15 minutes before slicing.
