Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ½ teaspoon of cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Beat the softened butter and sugar until fluffy, then mix in the vanilla and egg.
- Gradually add the flour mixture and buttermilk, alternating between them until just combined.
- Combine the apple slices with brown sugar and the remaining cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Spread the batter in the prepared cake pan and top with the apple slices and turbinado sugar.
- Bake for about 25 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a rack to cool for another 10-15 minutes before serving.
