Ingredients

The filling

  • 3 to 4 pieces baking pears, cored and diced
  • 1 piece apple, cored and diced
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ inch knob of fresh ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

The crumble topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • cup white granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup oat flakes
  • ½ cup walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 4 ounces unsalted butter, cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. In an 8x8-inch baking dish, toss together the diced pears, apples, both sugars, flour, minced ginger, vanilla extract, and salt until coated.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, oat flakes, and walnuts.
  4. In a small saucepan, brown the cubed butter over medium-high heat until it turns dark brown.
  5. Pour the browned butter into the bowl with the flour and oats, mixing until clumpy.
  6. Spread the crumble topping over the apple and pear filling.
  7. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until bubbling and golden brown.
  8. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
