Ingredients

The base

  • 6 cups water or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 ¼ cups old-fashioned grits

The flavorings

  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

The cheese and eggs

  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8 casserole dish.
  2. Boil water or broth with salt in a large saucepan.
  3. Slowly add the grits while stirring constantly.
  4. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat for 25 minutes, whisking occasionally.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup of cheese until melted, then let cool slightly.
  7. Whisk in the beaten eggs.
  8. Transfer mixture to the casserole dish and top with remaining cheese.
  9. Bake for 35 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
