Instructions
- 1. In a heavy saucepan, combine water, milk, bay leaf, and salt; bring to a boil.
- 2. Gradually whisk in the grits, stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
- 3. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, stirring frequently until thickened (10-15 minutes).
- 4. Remove from heat and stir in butter and cheese until melted.
- 5. Serve hot, topped with additional cheese and butter if desired.
