Ingredients

The broccoli

  • 1½-2 pounds broccoli florets

The sauce

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • cups grated cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan reggiano cheese
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • as needed ice
  • as needed cooking oil spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Blanch fresh broccoli in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then transfer to ice water to stop cooking.
  3. Drain and dry the broccoli.
  4. Melt butter in a pan and sauté minced garlic until fragrant.
  5. Add cream cheese, heavy cream, and ½ cup of grated cheddar cheese to the pan, stirring until melted.
  6. Season the sauce with onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
  7. Arrange the drained broccoli in a baking dish and pour the cheese sauce over it.
  8. Top with remaining cheddar, parmesan, and breadcrumbs, then spray with cooking oil.
  9. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, broiling for 1-3 minutes for a crisp top if desired.
  10. Cool before serving.
