Instructions
- Preheat a deep-fryer to 375°F or fill a large saucepan halfway with vegetable oil.
- In a large bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black or white pepper.
- In another bowl, mix buttermilk and egg, then set aside.
- Dip the shrimp in the buttermilk mixture, then coat them in the flour mixture.
- Fry the shrimp in batches until slightly brown and crispy, about 3 to 4 minutes, or longer for larger shrimp.
- Remove the shrimp with a slotted spoon and place them on a cookie rack to ensure crispness.
- Repeat with the remaining shrimp.
