Ingredients

The pasta and meat

  • 10 oz spaghetti pasta
  • 6 oz sausage, sliced into 1 inch rounds
  • 1 lb ground beef, turkey, or chicken

The vegetables

  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup chopped green peppers
  • ½ cup chopped red peppers
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

The sauce

  • 28 oz canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon ground oregano
  • 3 leaves fresh basil, chiffonade
  • cup dry white wine
  • 1 bay leaf bay leaf

The seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions.
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat medium-high and add the ground meat.
  3. Break down the meat and add sausage pieces, seasoning with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  4. Cook until fully cooked, about 5-6 minutes.
  5. Add the onions, green peppers, red peppers, and garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
  6. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  7. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, bay leaf, salt, pepper, and wine.
  8. Fold in the cooked spaghetti and stir well.
  9. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  10. Remove bay leaf before serving.
