Ingredients

  • 1-2 tbsp butter
  • 3-4 apples (about 1 lb) Autumn Glory apples, peeled & sliced
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ½ cup softened salted butter
  • 1 tbsp softened salted butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 units eggs
  • cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • to taste unit icing sugar or vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 320°F.
  2. Grease a 10-inch springform pan with butter and dust with flour.
  3. Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples, then toss them with lemon juice and let sit.
  4. In a small bowl, mix flour and baking powder; set aside.
  5. In a mixing bowl, beat together softened butter, sugar, and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  6. Add eggs and mix to combine; then incorporate the flour mixture and milk until fully combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  8. In a small pan, warm butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon until the sugar dissolves, then set aside.
  9. Drain lemon juice from apples and arrange them on top of the batter, pressing gently.
  10. Drizzle the melted butter mixture over the apples.
  11. Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  12. Cool for 10-15 minutes before removing from the pan.
  13. Sprinkle with icing sugar or serve with vanilla ice cream.
