Ingredients

The sandwich

  • 1 16 ounces baguette
  • 1 tablespoon thick balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze
  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 ½ cups baby arugula
  • 1 8 ounces mozzarella ball
  • 2 medium ripe tomatoes
  • to taste flaky sea salt or kosher salt

Creamy basil sauce

  • 1 small or ½ medium clove garlic
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ½ cup lightly packed fresh basil
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and slice the baguette in half lengthwise.
  2. Place the sliced bread on a baking sheet with cut sides facing up and bake for 5 minutes until warmed and lightly golden.
  3. Prepare the creamy basil sauce by blending garlic, mayonnaise, basil, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. Assemble the sandwiches by drizzling balsamic vinegar and olive oil on one half of the bread, then layering arugula, mozzarella, and tomato slices.
  5. Sprinkle the tomatoes with flaky salt and spread the basil sauce on the other half of the bread before closing the sandwich.
