Ingredients

The beans

  • 15 oz great northern beans, drained and rinsed
  • 15 oz low sodium pinto beans, drained and rinsed

The base

  • 3 strips bacon, diced
  • 1 cup yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

The sauces and seasonings

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup Stubb’s original BBQ sauce
  • tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon ancho chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard seed

Instructions

  1. Heat a medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Sauté the diced bacon for 4-5 minutes until slightly browned.
  3. Add the onions and garlic, sautéing until the onions are translucent, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the drained and rinsed beans along with ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, vinegar, maple syrup, paprika, chili powder, and mustard seed. Stir to combine.
  5. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let the beans simmer for 30-35 minutes.
