Sweet Pear and Rosemary Honey with Havarti Grilled Cheese

Ingredients

The filling

  • 8 slices Havarti cheese
  • 8 slices fresh pear
  • 2 tablespoons raspberry or strawberry jam

The bread

  • 8 slices challah bread or brioche

The honey mixture

  • cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter

The egg mixture

  • 1 large egg, whisked
  • 1 tablespoon milk

For frying

  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a small saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add honey and rosemary, stirring until blended, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. On 4 slices of bread, layer ½ tablespoon of jam, 1 slice of cheese, and 2 slices of pear.
  5. Drizzle with honey and top with another slice of cheese and remaining bread slices.
  6. Heat a skillet on medium and melt 1 tablespoon of butter.
  7. In a shallow bowl, whisk together egg and milk.
  8. Dip the sandwiches in the egg mixture and cook in the skillet two at a time for 3-4 minutes until golden.
  9. Flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes until cheese melts and bread is golden.
  10. Repeat with remaining sandwiches, then cut in half and serve hot.
