Ingredients

The beef

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • ¼ cup sliced green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

The sides

  • 3 cups steamed rice
  • 3 cups steamed or sautéed vegetables (e.g., broccoli, asparagus, carrots, mushrooms, peppers)

Instructions

  1. 1. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and cook the ground beef for 4-6 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks.
  2. 2. Add the minced garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional minute.
  3. 3. In a small bowl, whisk together sesame oil, brown sugar, and soy sauce.
  4. 4. Pour the sauce over the beef and bring to a simmer, cooking for 3-4 minutes.
  5. 5. Mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water and add it to the beef mixture, cooking for 1 minute until thickened.
  6. 6. Stir in the green onions and sesame seeds.
  7. 7. Divide the rice and vegetables among bowls and top with the beef mixture before serving.
