Grandma's Baked Country Style Pork Ribs

Ingredients

For Browning the Ribs

  • 5 pounds bone-in country style pork ribs
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions, sliced ⅜" thick

For the BBQ Sauce

  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ¾ cup water
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • cup dry sherry wine
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 ½ tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed or minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¾ teaspoon paprika
  • ¾ teaspoon chili powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and line a baking sheet with a cooling rack.
  2. Season the pork ribs with kosher salt and black pepper, then lightly toss in flour.
  3. Brown the ribs in batches in a large skillet with canola oil for about 15-20 minutes per batch.
  4. Transfer the browned ribs back to the baking sheet and clean the skillet.
  5. Mix the BBQ sauce ingredients together in a bowl.
  6. Place all the ribs back in the skillet, add sliced onions on top, and pour the BBQ sauce over the ribs and onions.
  7. Cover the skillet tightly and bake for 1 ½ to 2 hours, basting midway through if desired.
  8. Serve hot with the sauce and onions spooned on top.
