Honey Baked Beans
Ingredients
The beans

dry navy beans or kidney beans

inch by 2 inch
piece of kombu

clove
garlic, minced
The sauce

can diced tomatoes

tablespoon
bacon fat

tablespoon
soy sauce

tablespoons
honey

½
teaspoon
smoked paprika
Instructions
- Soak the beans and kombu in water overnight.
- Drain and rinse the beans in the morning, then return them to a pot with 3 cups of water and the kombu.
- Simmer gently for about an hour until the beans are tender.
- Remove the kombu and add the remaining ingredients to the pot.
- Simmer uncovered over low heat for another 30 to 40 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Serve warm.
