Ingredients

The green beans

  • 1 pound green beans

The sauce

  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup water or stock
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • to taste Kosher salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper
  • to taste freshly grated Parmesan (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine green beans, butter, water, and garlic in a skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  2. Cover and heat over medium-high until simmering, then reduce heat to low.
  3. Cook for 8 minutes, stirring occasionally until beans are tender but not mushy.
  4. Uncover, toss beans in the sauce, and adjust seasoning as needed.
  5. Transfer to a serving dish and shave Parmesan over the top if desired.
