Ingredients

The cauliflower wings

  • 1 medium head cauliflower
  • ¾ cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¾ cup unsweetened vegan milk
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

The sweet and sour sauce

  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup vinegar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • ½ tablespoon sesame seeds
  • to taste none chopped scallion

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C) and prepare a baking sheet.
  2. Cut the cauliflower into smaller wing-like pieces.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, vegan milk, sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to create the batter.
  4. In another bowl, place the breadcrumbs.
  5. Coat the cauliflower pieces in the batter, then transfer to the breadcrumbs to coat completely.
  6. Arrange the coated cauliflower on the baking sheet and bake for 22 minutes.
  7. While the cauliflower is baking, prepare the sweet and sour sauce by whisking together sugar, ketchup, vinegar, water, soy sauce, garlic powder, and cornstarch in a pan over medium heat until thickened.
  8. Remove the cauliflower from the oven and toss in the sauce, then return to the baking sheet and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions before serving.
