Smoked BBQ Chicken Wings

Ingredients

The wings

  • 2.5 lbs chicken wings and drummettes

The rub and sauce

  • 3–4 tbsp all purpose BBQ Rub
  • ½ bottle BBQ Sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

The smoking materials

  • to taste Apple or cherry wood chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and set up direct and indirect heating zones.
  2. Rinse the chicken wings and pat them dry, then coat with olive oil and sprinkle the BBQ rub.
  3. Add wood chips to the fire and allow them to start smoking.
  4. Place the wings on the indirect heat side of the grill and smoke for about 30 to 40 minutes, turning once for even cooking.
  5. Move the wings to direct heat, apply BBQ sauce to both sides, and grill for an additional 10 minutes to develop char marks.
  6. Check the internal temperature of the wings to ensure they reach 165 degrees.
  7. Tent the wings for 10 minutes before serving.
  8. Serve with extra BBQ sauce and your choice of sides.
