Ingredients

The marinade

  • cup soy sauce
  • cup lime juice
  • cup avocado oil
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt

The meat

  • 3 pounds tri tip roast

Instructions

  1. Combine the marinade ingredients in a mason jar or blender.
  2. Place the tri tip in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over it.
  3. Marinate for at least one hour at room temperature or up to four hours in the fridge.
  4. Preheat the grill to high heat (about 450°F).
  5. Grill the tri tip over direct heat for about 8 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for another 25 to 30 minutes until desired doneness.
  7. Let the meat rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
