Braised Red Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 each yellow onion
  • 2 lbs red cabbage
  • 1 each granny smith apple
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup water
  • ½ tsp salt
  • to taste none freshly cracked pepper

Instructions

  1. Dice the onion and sauté it in butter over medium heat until soft.
  2. Shred the cabbage and slice the apple while the onion cooks.
  3. Add the cabbage, apple, vinegar, water, and salt to the pot with the onions.
  4. Cover the pot and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender (20-30 minutes).
  5. If the pot dries out, add more water as needed.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with pepper, salt, or vinegar if desired.
