Easy Pita Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by stirring it into warm water and letting it sit for 5 minutes until bubbles appear.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine bread flour, salt, and olive oil.
  3. Stir in the activated yeast mixture and mix until a rough dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let it rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  6. Once risen, divide the dough into eight equal pieces and shape each into a round.
  7. Roll each piece into an oval about 3-5 mm thick.
  8. Preheat the oven to 230°C (446°F) with a baking tray inside.
  9. Dust the hot baking tray with flour and place the pita bread on it, avoiding crowding.
  10. Bake for 5 to 6 minutes until the pita is golden brown and puffed.
