Ingredients

The dough

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • teaspoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

  • cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  4. Cover the dough and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours or up to 3 days.
  5. After chilling, let the dough soften at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Scoop the dough into balls, shaping them taller rather than wider, and place them on the baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 12-13 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned. Cool on the baking sheets for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
