Ingredients

  • 1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup lightly packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup room temperature water
  • cup neutral-flavored oil
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • to taste none powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the center and add the water, oil, vinegar, vanilla extract, and chocolate chips, stirring until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the top springs back lightly and a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Optionally dust with powdered sugar before serving warm or at room temperature.
