Ingredients

The biscuits

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 2-3 tablespoons sugar (optional)
  • ½ cup butter, cold or frozen
  • 1⅓ cups buttermilk or milk, cold

Honey Butter

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and optional sugar, then grate in the cold butter.
  2. Make a well in the center and add buttermilk or milk, stirring gently until just combined.
  3. Let the dough rest in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently 3-4 times.
  5. Pat or roll the dough to about ½ inch thick, then fold it over itself 6-8 times.
  6. Press down to about 1 inch thick and cut out biscuits using a cookie cutter.
  7. Brush biscuits with buttermilk and bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes until lightly browned.
  8. While baking, mix honey and softened butter to make honey butter.
  9. Spread honey butter over warm biscuits before serving.
