Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cream together the sugar and butter, then add the egg and mix until combined.
- Sift the dry ingredients together and alternate adding them with the milk to the butter mixture, then stir in the vanilla.
- Chill the dough for 30 minutes before rolling it out on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thick.
- Cut the dough into approximately 2-inch squares and bake for 10-11 minutes, avoiding over-baking.
- To make the frosting, cream the softened butter with 1 cup of powdered sugar, then gradually add the remaining sugar.
- Mix in the maple extract and milk until the frosting is thick and spreadable.
- Frost the cookies and sprinkle with cinnamon before serving.
