Instructions
- Cook diced bacon in a pot over medium heat until crispy, about 6 minutes.
- If using ham, brown it in bacon grease or oil.
- Wash and trim the green beans, chop the onions, and slice the garlic while the bacon cooks.
- Add onions and bay leaf to the pot and sauté until softened.
- Add garlic and green beans, then cover with broth.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 40 minutes to 1½ hours until tender.
- Serve with the cooking juices.
