Ingredients

The burger mixture

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ medium onion, diced
  • cup red bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • 15 ounce can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup cooked quinoa
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ cup gluten free flour

The sauce

  • 1 cup Roasted Strawberry Barbecue Sauce or Regular Homemade BBQ Sauce

Instructions

  1. Sauté the onions, red bell peppers, and garlic in olive oil over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes and season with salt and pepper.
  2. In a food processor, combine the black beans, cooked quinoa, sautéed vegetables, red pepper flakes, gluten free flour, ground black pepper, and sea salt. Pulse until well combined.
  3. Form the mixture into burger patties using a measuring cup for uniformity, and place them on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
  4. Refrigerate the patties for about 10 minutes for better cohesion if desired.
  5. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat, add the burgers, and cook for about 6 minutes on each side until crispy and cooked through.
  6. Serve the burgers as desired, with toppings and sauces.
