Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chunks
  • ½ cup milk chocolate chips

The caramel layer

  • ½ cup caramel pieces
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • to taste none coarse sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Soften the butter in the microwave and mix with the sugars until creamed.
  3. Add vanilla, maple syrup, and eggs, mixing until smooth.
  4. Incorporate flour, baking soda, and salt until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips and chunks.
  6. Melt caramel pieces with heavy cream in the microwave until smooth.
  7. Press half of the dough into a cast iron skillet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Pour the caramel over the dough and cover with the remaining dough.
  9. Bake for 15-25 minutes, then sprinkle with sea salt.
  10. Allow to rest for at least one hour before serving.
