Ingredients

The batter

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 3 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

For serving

  • to taste chocolate syrup
  • to taste whipped cream
  • to taste fresh fruit

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. 2. Make a well in the center and pour in the wet ingredients: milk, egg, and melted butter; mix until smooth.
  3. 3. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  4. 4. Heat a griddle or frying pan over medium-high heat, greasing if desired.
  5. 5. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately ¼ cup for each pancake.
  6. 6. When bubbles start to form on the first side, carefully flip and brown the second side.
  7. 7. Repeat with remaining batter until you have about 8 pancakes.
  8. 8. Serve hot with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, or fresh fruit.
