Ingredients

The batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • teaspoons baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
  • 2 large eggs
  • cups buttermilk or milk
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Butter for cooking

For serving

  • Maple syrup
  • fresh whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, salt, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and cinnamon in a large bowl.
  2. In another bowl, mix eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Pour the egg mixture into the flour mixture and mix gently until just combined.
  4. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  5. Heat a lightly oiled pan over medium-high heat.
  6. Scoop about ¼ cup of batter onto the pan and flatten slightly.
  7. Cook until bubbles form and edges brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes.
  9. Repeat with remaining batter.
