Ingredients

The French Toast

  • 6 slices day-old bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cups milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream

The Topping

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cold butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For Serving

  • cups fresh berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries)
  • to taste powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Grease a 13-inch by 9-inch baking dish and arrange the bread slices in a single layer.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugars, vanilla, salt, milk, and cream.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, turning the slices to coat, then cover and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Uncover the French toast and flip the slices to coat again.
  6. Mix the flour, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a bowl to make the topping.
  7. Sprinkle the topping over the bread and bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes until set and golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving with fresh berries and powdered sugar.
