Ingredients

The cookies

  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¾ tsp maple extract
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

The frosting

  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3 Tbsp half and half
  • 1 ¼ tsp maple extract

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Cream together the butter and sugar in an electric mixer, then mix in the egg, sour cream, maple extract, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients until combined.
  4. Divide the dough into two portions, shape into disks, and chill for 2 hours.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F during the last 10 minutes of chilling.
  6. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to slightly over ¼-inch thickness and cut into rounds.
  7. Transfer the rounds to a lined baking sheet and bake for 9-10 minutes until nearly set.
  8. Cool the cookies before frosting them with the maple cinnamon frosting.
