Ingredients

The base

  • 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1 Small Onion, finely diced
  • 3 Cloves Garlic, mashed
  • 1 Pound Ground Beef
  • 1 Tablespoon Italian Seasoning
  • 2 Teaspoons Cumin
  • ½ Teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
  • 2 Teaspoons Sea Salt
  • ½ Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • 1 24 Ounce Jar Marinara or Bolognese Sauce
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 7 Large Lasagna Noodles, broken into pieces

The cheeses

  • ¾ Cup Parmesan Cheese, grated
  • ¾ Cup Mozzarella Cheese
  • ¼ Cup Basil, chopped (for garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet on medium heat and add olive oil, onion, and garlic; sauté for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add ground beef and cook for 5 minutes, breaking it up until it begins to brown.
  3. Stir in Italian seasoning, cumin, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper; cook for 2 more minutes.
  4. Pour marinara sauce and water into the skillet, then add broken lasagna noodles, ensuring they are covered.
  5. Cover the pan, reduce heat to low-medium, and cook for 23-25 minutes until noodles are al dente.
  6. Mix together the parmesan and mozzarella cheese in a bowl.
  7. Remove the cover, mix in half of the cheese mixture, and sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
  8. Turn on the broiler and broil for about 2 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
  9. Garnish with chopped basil if desired and serve.
