Ingredients

The dough

  • 1⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ½ cup Nutella
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 drop hazelnut extract (optional)

The mix-ins

  • ¾ cup chopped toasted hazelnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter, Nutella, sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer for about 4 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla, and hazelnut extract (if using) and mix until smooth.
  5. Gradually stir in the flour mixture until just combined, then fold in the hazelnuts.
  6. Spoon out tablespoon-sized mounds of dough onto a cookie sheet, spacing them about 4 inches apart.
  7. Bake for about 10 minutes until lightly golden around the edges.
  8. Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool.
