Ingredients

Filling

  • 5 medium apples, core removed, peeled and sliced
  • 2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup raw cane sugar
  • 1 tablespoon gluten-free all purpose flour or gluten-free oat flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ cup maple syrup

Topping

  • 1 cup gluten-free rolled oats
  • ½ cup gluten-free all purpose flour or gluten-free oat flour
  • ½ cup coconut palm sugar
  • cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch sea salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Prepare the filling by placing sliced apples in a baking dish and drizzle with lemon juice.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together raw sugar, flour, and cinnamon, then sprinkle over the apples.
  4. Drizzle maple syrup over the apples and set aside.
  5. In a mixing bowl, prepare the topping by combining oats, flour, coconut palm sugar, optional nuts, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Add melted butter or oil to the topping mixture and mix until crumbly.
  7. Spread the topping evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes until the top is golden brown and edges are bubbling.
  9. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream.
