Ingredients

The caramel

  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 cups light brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons red food coloring

The apples

  • 10-12 medium organic apples
  • 10-12 pieces ice-pop sticks or other holders

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan.
  2. Add the brown sugar, corn syrup, sweetened condensed milk, and salt, stirring over medium heat until it boils and reaches 235°F on a candy thermometer.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and food coloring, then allow to cool to 200°F.
  4. Insert ice-pop sticks into the tops of the apples and dip them into the caramel mixture, rotating to coat.
  5. Place the coated apples on a silicone baking liner or waxed paper until the caramel sets.
