Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3 Tbsp chopped fresh chives
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse meal.
  4. Stir in the cheddar cheese and chives.
  5. Add the buttermilk and mix until the dough comes together.
  6. Scoop out heaping ¼ cup portions of dough and drop them onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the tops are golden.
  8. Serve warm.
