Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • cups bread flour
  • ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 package dry active yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons molasses

Instructions

  1. Combine the bread flour, oats, kosher salt, and shortening in a medium bowl and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm water and yeast and let it stand for a few minutes.
  3. Add the egg, molasses, and half of the flour mixture to the yeast mixture and mix until smooth.
  4. Add the remaining flour mixture and mix again until smooth.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  6. Grease a loaf pan and gently press down the dough in the bowl.
  7. Spread the dough into the prepared pan and let it rise until it reaches near the top of the pan.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F and bake for 40-50 minutes until browned and hollow when tapped.
  9. Remove from the pan, let cool, slice, and serve.
