Salted Caramel Apple Upside Down Cake

Instructions
- Grease a round 9-inch cake pan generously.
- Slice the apples very thinly using a mandoline or a sharp knife.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan, then add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla. Cook for about 3 minutes until smooth.
- Pour the caramel mixture into the greased cake pan and layer the apple slices on top.
- Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
- In a bowl, beat the remaining butter and brown sugar until creamy, then add eggs and milk and mix until incorporated.
- Stir in flour, baking powder, and cinnamon, then pour the batter over the caramel and apple layer in the cake pan.
- Bake for 45 minutes, then let cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a plate.
- Sprinkle with sea salt and serve, optionally with vanilla ice cream.
