The nuts

  • 1 cup hazelnuts, shelled

Optional fat

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange hazelnuts in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. Toast in the oven for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until golden brown and fragrant.
  4. Remove from the oven and wrap in a kitchen towel to steam for 1 minute.
  5. Rub the hazelnuts in the towel to remove loose skins.
  6. Alternatively, toast hazelnuts in a skillet over medium heat for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Wrap and rub in a towel to remove skins as described above.
