Ingredients

The naan

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour plus more for rolling
  • 1 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup plain low-fat Greek yogurt or regular yogurt
  • 2 to 5 tablespoons water
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • to taste chopped fresh cilantro or parsley (optional)
  • to taste flaky sea salt (optional)

For garlic butter

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Stir in the yogurt and add water as needed to form a dough.
  3. Knead the dough for 1 to 2 minutes, then let it rest covered for 30 minutes.
  4. Prepare melted butter or garlic butter during the last 10 minutes of resting.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and cut it into 8 wedges.
  6. Roll each wedge into a ball, then flatten into a circle or oval about ¼-inch thick.
  7. Cook each piece in a hot cast iron skillet for 1 minute, brushing with butter.
  8. Flip and cook for another minute until golden brown.
  9. Repeat with remaining dough and serve warm.
