Shrimp Cocktail

Ingredients

The shrimp

  • 1 pound 16-20 count shrimp, shell on
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon pickling seasoning (optional)
  • ½ lemon for seasoning water

The cocktail sauce

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup Heinz chili sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3-4 teaspoons prepared horseradish
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Use a 3-4 quart saucepan to cook the shrimp with Old Bay, pickling spice, and a half lemon squeezed into the water.
  2. Bring the water to a boil, then add the shrimp, making sure to keep the shells on.
  3. Cook the shrimp for 3-4 minutes until firm.
  4. Drain the shrimp in a colander without using ice water to cool them.
  5. Chill the shrimp in an ice bath for 5-7 minutes, then peel and devein.
  6. Serve the shrimp on crushed ice with cocktail sauce and a lemon wedge.
  7. For the cocktail sauce, mix ketchup, chili sauce, horseradish, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl and chill until needed.
