Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8-inch metal baking pan.
- Dice the apples into small pieces, measuring out roughly 3 cups.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, oil, and eggs, then stir in the diced apples.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg, salt, and cloves.
- Sift half of the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stir to combine, then sift in the remaining dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Scoop the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer.
- Make the streusel topping by mixing flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and a pinch of salt, then crumble it over the batter.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the cake pulls away from the edges and is firm and golden.
- Let the cake cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
- Whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled cake before slicing.
