Ingredients

  • ½ cup milk of choice
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ tablespoon sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F (200C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the milk and vinegar in a small bowl and let it sit until it curdles, about 10 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, sugar, and baking soda.
  4. Add the curdled milk in two increments, mixing gently until just combined.
  5. Transfer the dough to a floured surface, knead gently 8-10 times, and shape into a dome.
  6. Slice the dough twice across to form a cross shape.
  7. Bake the dough on the prepared sheet for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  8. Allow to cool completely before slicing and serving.
